Unai's remixes keep on coming. This time it might be a bit of a surprise for those into the sound of Unai. One of Unai's fans is none other than swedish pop-wizard Alexander Bard, head of popstars Bodies Without Organs. He approached Unai asking for a remix, and here it finally is. The grandeur of the original ballad has been redesigned into Unai's minimal techno mould, and the end result is nothing short of a little masterpiece.

Unai is featured on a new and unique compialtion featuring the cremé de la cremé of swedish electronic music. The CD called "Ny musik för landssorg" has a very special theme: new music for national grief.
Or as in the words of the curators:
"Swedish National Radio has special restrictions concerning what should be said when big disasters occur, in cases of national grief or so called constitutional death. In every studio there is a book with instructions of what to say and a play list that stipulates appropriate music to play (really, no kidding here folks), for example Swedish traditional composers and icons such as Wilhelm Petterson Berger, Evert Taube, Staffan Scheja and Björn J:son Lindh. But how can anyone know what music to play on the radio at constitutional death or when Swedish tourists drown on the other side off the planet? Every person probably has his or her own music for sorrow. But there must be something special that goes with the sorrow of a whole nation? What is unique with this music? The music that can help us with these things that we can't put words on. The radio show "Ström" asked ten Swedish electronica artists to create new music for national grief and the result was presented in the show spring 2007. The songs are new and unique music that can be used as alternative music at constitutional death or some other major disaster. Or as music for private sorrows." Unai participated with the song "Younger than ever"

Although it has been quiet about Crystal Fake for a while, it doesn't mean that nothing has happened. In fact, the truth is the opposite. Crystal has been locked up in the studio producing new material and the first 12" has now been released on Out Of Orbit Recordings. It's called "Weekday Trip" and flirts with some trance that was released back in 92-93 by Sven Väth on Eye Q plus a solid bass and pumping atmospheric sounds. It has already topped numerous charts and includes a stunning remix by label boss Martinez himself. A true anthem for the summer!

Fellow Upsalians and maestro electronicans Differnet are soon releasing their third album "Collapsing universe" (if you haven't checked out the two first albums from this exquisite constellation be sure to do that immediately - they are more proof to the fact that it must be something very special in the waters of Uppsala...), but before that lands at the end of may there is a taster in the form of a 12" called "Expanding universe pt 1". This EP contains two tracks from the album and two remixes. The remixes comes courtesy of neu-shoegazer-whiz-kid Jesse Somfay and of course... Unai. The track in particular to keep your ears open for is called "Patterns of parklands (Unai remiks)".

Just one week after the latest remix from Unai found it's way onto record comes another one. This week it is Martin Brodins very fine "Semtione shuffle" from last year that has been reworked by Unai. The cut is released by Martin Brodins label Audiobahn, and besides the Unai rework there's one from Mikael Stavöstrand.

As said earlier: the last 12 months has seen Unai wokring constantly on remixing. Some of the works were released last year, but the last few months there has been a little break in the stream of Unai remikses. But that will change now, starting with Unai's epic discotronik-flow remix of fellow Upsalians Vibrasphere. The track "Seven days to daylight (Unai remiks)" is lifted from the album "Archipelago remixed" which features remixed versions of tracks from Vibrasphere's 2006 album "Archipelago" (hard to figure that out wasn't it!?). The album is released on CD and in digital format and is available from Vibrasphere or Juno.
Keep your eyes and ears open the rest of this spring since there will be much more remix goodies from Unai coming your way, some of them are very well known names... |
Crystal Fake's "Me No Fake" (Morgan Page remix) and Unai's "Blissful Burden" (Kris Menace vocal reinterpretation) & Drei Farben House - "Unprivate" (Unai remix) are included on a digital only compilation called "We Love Europe: House Essentials 2006". The compilation includes other absolutely essential 2006 tunes as Roberto Rodriguez - "I Want To Be A DJ", Martin Landsky - "1000 Miles" (Loco Dice remix) and Ricardo Villalobos - "Que Belle Epoque"
Available now from Juno. |
